Success

Well, in some respects. I seem to have lost a post that I wrote and saved though.

So, Tuesday was a killer day. Had a great morning with Atti, then got a tonne done when he was off with his grandparents for the afternoon. Cleaned out the fridge, did a huge amount of laundry and dishes, baked two kinds of biscuits and managed to both shop and talk to the wool-shop lady about how to knit down a jumper of Atti's.

I felt awesome about Tuesday. Even managed to make dinner for Atti and us.

Wednesday not so much. Managed very little. Did pick Atti up early - but instead of going to the park, I stayed at daycare and played with him and the other kids in their yard. Weather didn't know what it was doing so it seemed like the best option. Then we came home and had a lovely snuggly afternoon watching Thomas (this is pretty rare actually).

He slept the full 12 hours last night - utter bliss.

Today was a great day too. We had a fantastic morning - well actually, come to think of it, our swimming this morning was a bit stressy. Atti kept running off and trying to join in the swim class that was going next to where I was giving him a swimming lesson. Dammit - we will have to go earlier to avoid that. For once he wanted to get out and go home - normally he has to be dragged out of the pool when he is totally blue and never wants to go home. He didn't even want to stay and eat quiche! I have to remember that the pool is awful in terms of him being able to get out of the centre - I literally can't give him any leeway to come back himself.

But otherwise it was a nice day. He was fine going off with his Opa, I had plenty of time to get ready and head off for my interview today (although I only just managed to be on time - google maps were not brilliant today). And best of all I have managed to secure a volunteer job with a CLC. This is such a relief, because I was beginning to feel like I was never going to find somewhere - and I have no shot at a job without some kind of experience when I graduate. So I am pretty relieved.

Even if it is a hell of a long way away. Doing domestic violence law. Yikes. But hey - actual path to a job now, so that makes me happy. And Opa is going to come pick Atti up from daycare and take him out to the park or the cafe, then bring him home and get dinner started until the Wookie and I get here. And given the slightly later bedtime these days, we will still have a bit of time to spend with him those nights. So yay me.

Now I just have to decide whether I pull him out of daycare on Fridays. I really want to spend the day with him, but when will I have time to do all the other stuff I want to get on top of this semester? The de-cluttering and organising of my household. The shopping and cooking he can be a part of, and some of the cleaning I guess - but I don't really want to be trying to work out my kitchen cupboards with a toddler 'helping'. So I will need to have a bit of a think about that.

First Day

So today didn't go great. I didn't make it in to my seminar. I did manage to unregister for my other classes and download the unit guide and lecture notes for the social and welfare law unit I am going to keep doing.

Nothing classier than pretending you are not home when you hear your neighbour bring your kid home! But he does need to get used to Monday afternoons being with neighbour K and her daughter 'Rio'. They apparently had a fabulous time and Atti was introduced to bread and butter pudding. K is a very health conscious cook and so she is sugar free and the kids get good food with her, but with no sugars. He loves her rice pudding and apparently her bread and butter pudding too ( I don't know how to make either).

I think it all went a bit pear-shaped for me today when I came back home after dropping him at daycare. I think I will have to plan on Mondays to head straight out to uni after dropping him off. We can still have a slower morning - I will have all day to do my work on my unit - but if I come home I get sucked into home stuff and end up falling asleep early in the afternoon and not getting to class.

The very good news today is that I have an interview on Thursday with a CLC. I am really excited about it, but going to hold off on telling everyone til I actually have something concrete. But fingers crossed. And even better if I don't have to work on Friday so I can go ahead with my plan to spend Fridays with Atti.

The other thing that was good was that since I was hiding in my room anyway, I got to listen to Atti and the Wookie spend an hour together without me, doing bath and bedtime. It went swimmingly and everyone was happy. When I try to hole up in my room on weekends it doesn't always go that well, so it was a bit of relief to hear everyone have happy time on Monday nights. As it will be for the whole semester now.

So today - not much in the way of gold stars. Housework - one load of laundry; Kitchen - nothing, in fact have sent Wook out for junk; Study - not much; general life organisation - not much; career - maybe something.

Must do better tomorrow. The plan is to take two kidlets to toddler gym, stopping at the shop on the way (cat fud, must get some), get boy kidlet down for a nap, give girl kidlet back to her parent, then hand boy kidlet over to grandparents for the afternoon. Then I will make various kiddy food and something for us adults. Maybe tackle the dining table? Actually no. I will wheel a bin up to the door and go through the fridge and cupboards and freezer. The problem with having lots of space in these is that I fill them up…. and never know what is in there or when it will go off. That is tomorrow's task.

So, I started a blog. Like a thousand thousand other mums I guess. And apparently at the arse end of blogging as a cool thing to do, to boot!

But that's ok, because I am only doing this for myself. See I am taking 6 months (mostly) off studying, and I am going to use this to try to keep myself from spending all my time watching tv and eating crap. I aim to blog a little every day, or at least a couple of times a week to keep myself honest.

I am fed up with juggling studying, a toddler, a household, budget, and the bits of my life I want to hold on to. My house is in chaos, we are eating waaaay too much junk food, I don't spend enough time with my kid, and I never get any exercise. The wheels have kind of fallen off. Along with my grades.

So, I have convinced myself, the Wookie, and assorted friends and family that I am going to drop down to one unit, and spend some time getting the other bits of my life sorted. And hopefully find some volunteer work in law - because I am not getting a job any time soon without some experience, especially at my age.

The plan is to get the house decluttered and organised, get myself into good routines with exercise and food and all manner of other things, start doing some fun things with the sprog - but also just to do some normal things with him. We do lots of activities together, but we don't spend time at home where he sees me do things like clean and cook. When I do anything like that, it is usually with him parked in front of the tv. So I want to do activities like all those bloggers I like, but also he should see and be involved in normal round the house stuff too.

I am going to try to introduce one or two things a week, and this is by way of keeping track of it all. I don't know how honest it is given that I have no readers, so I guess it will depend on when I start telling people about the blog. I know when I set up live journal I didn't tell anyone for 6 months, and only then because I accidentally mentioned it! We shall see.

I haven't decided about photos of my kid yet. I am tempted, because I think he is cute and I have become a fairly decent amateur photographer in the last two years - but I wonder given the split about blogs and photos of kids. Will decide later I guess.

That must be enough for a first post surely! Lets see if I manage to make it to class this afternoon as my first goal!
